“During my first pregnancy I put on 5 stone and found it impossible to shift afterwards. I knew the only way was through diet and exercise, however I did not know where to even begin. I started to look at personal trainers in Kent and came across various websites and testimonials, but the only one that stood out was Luke’s ‘inspiring fitness’ and that was just what I needed, inspiration. I was apprehensive about meeting luke and dreading the whole “measuring up” as I was terribly self-consious – I think all woman (especially post baby) can relate to this, especially when it’s a man doing it. However, Luke didn’t bat an eyelid and make me feel so at ease. What stood out for me, was that Luke sat and listened to me, he did not promise me a ‘quick fix’ but reasonable, realistic goals. He offered immense support and inspiration both physically and emotionally and the only promise/guarantee that he made was that he would, “get me there”…and that he did. For all the people (men & woman) out there wanting to make a change in their lives, however big or small, Luke is your man. The biggest step is making the call and I am sure glad that I did.”
“… you are driven to excel. I’ve lost over a stone since I started and I’m so much fitter. I’ve also increased my flexibility and strength. “
“I started training with Luke at the end of February 2014. Having not done any real exercise for years I was nervous about my level of fitness and coupled with a back disease I was not sure what I would be able to achieve.
From this limited starting point to my new found ability to do chin ups ( with help), row at a decent pace and lift weights – my confidence and ability has increased far more than I would have expected. My weight and fat percentage has also decreased.
All of the above is wonderful but the most important part for me is the enjoyment I have got through this training. Luke has fostered a ‘can do’ spirit in me which I will continue to benefit from long after I stop my PT sessions!
As you can gather from the above I would absolutely recommend Luke. Without doubt the best money I have spent on myself in years! Thank you Luke.”
“I initially spoke to Luke about helping me with my running as I had been running for a couple of years and I felt that I wasn’t progressing at all. I felt very out of breath for the first 10-15 minutes and very worn out after running for thirty minutes. Luke took me out running and watched my form and gradually I made some changes that made such an improvement that within three months I had entered a 10 km race and run it comfortably from start to finish and even knocked ten minutes off my estimated time. I have also strengthened my core muscles and built up strength in my legs and arms by attending personal training sessions with Luke. In just four months I had changed 6% body fat into muscle! The exercises Luke sets for me to do at home need no equipment and take only 15-20 minutes but the results have been remarkable. I am definitely the fittest I have ever been in my adult life. The programme set by Luke fits in easily into family life. I eat differently now too. My breakfast change has been the most dramatic and so easy. I feel a lot calmer and have much more energy. Luke talks about food every time we meet and gradually I have made simple changes and noticed the difference. I have noticed how the fitter I feel the more changes I want to make because I am seeing the difference. I have wasted so much money on gym memberships over the years because I thought that was the best way to get fit and stay healthy but I have seen more benefit in just a few weeks of personal training with Luke. He is so motivational and always on the end of the phone or email. He has even phoned to tell me to record a television programme I may find interesting on the subject and lent me relevant books to read about running. He has definitely ignited a great interest in fitness and food in me, I can’t recommend him highly enough.”

“Having been running for a while I had achieved a reasonable level of fitness, and enjoyment, and decided I wanted to take it to the next level. Luke’s expertise in technique, posture, conditioning and nutrition have been invaluable to me.
I soon learned that running was not just about running, but also relies upon core strength, stability and the right fuel (amongst other things) to produce the most efficient and effective running form. Luke’s teaching gives an in-depth understanding of how the body works and has evolved and thus he coaches how to run, train and improve overall condition in harmony with the human form, rather than powering against it. These techniques are a far more holistic approach to health and fitness than the mainstream whilst also minimising the risk of injury. Furthermore Luke’s anatomical knowledge has been superb, particularly in terms of improving general flexibility and preventing and addressing muscle strains. The results, for me, have been outstanding, quickly marking up a personal best in the Canterbury 10mile race in 2012.
My diet has always been fairly good (or so I thought) but Luke’s advice has altered our eating habits dramatically. The quality of the food we eat is clearly going to significantly influence our health and general wellbeing, with Luke’s guidance we now ensure we eat only high quality meats and fish (which themselves have had an appropriately nutritious life) and vegetables, with good quality dairy products. We never really scratched below the surface of nutrition and assumed what the supermarkets provide in the fresh foods aisles will be of good enough quality – how wrong we were. With Luke’s help we’ve been able to adapt our lifestyle and source good quality nourishment, whilst keeping it all affordable. I have a great ongoing relationship with Luke and am working my way through his recommended reading sources which provide extensive detail and background to much of his teaching. I really look forward to my sessions – the ultimate me time!”

“Luke’s enthusiasm and passion is fantastic. He really knows how to get the most out of you in both his classes and personal training. Luke really goes the extra mile in helping his pupils, advising them on their best course of action for any problems they are facing. His knowledge is inspiring. A really keen and approachable trainer who I recommend to all my friends and family.”
“After despairing with the NHS I decided to go private, but was unable to find an appropriate physio in my local area and the odd couple which were practiced in un accessible buildings and did not go out to patients homes. When mentioning this on a visit home, my parents suggested trying to find a personal trainer. I jumped on this idea and started hunting…. Many trainers turned me down due to not knowing how to work with a disabled person or not having experience in this area. After weeks of searching I was starting to give up and I was trying to find an exercise class to join. During this time I accidentally came across Luke Bicknell’s website, a personal trainer. I rattled him off a brief email and he responded quickly, within a short period of time we had arranged a assessment. Luke told me clearly at the beginning that he didn’t know whether he could help me but he was willing to try and he had never worked with disabled people before. This was all I needed to know and after meeting him, I was raring to go. We soon started weekly sessions, which progressed onto twice a week training.
Luke soon started trying out different exercises with me, thinking of unique ones which suited my ability and adjusted to me. During the training sessions Luke would try out different exercises and think of new ones on the spot. His ability to adapt to me was impressive and a skill I have rarely seen. Without any direction from me he was giving some similar exercises that physios had, which reassured me of his ability and made me realised that a good personal trainer could easily equate to a physio – this was reconfirmed as my time with Luke continued. Not only did he support me physically he also assisted me with my nutrition and general dietary habits, due to them intertwining. (My university diet has not always been the best).
Throughout my time training with Luke; I have increased in strength hugely; completed some planed goals; increased my muscle tone and developed a more continuous strength. This was done throw the use of wrist weights, disk weights, kitchen roll, breathing and general movement. I had exercise to do on a daily basis and a diary reminder and Luke was always a text or an email away; if I needed to ask anything. My time with Luke has been amazing, he has given me unprecedented amount of support which has helped me physically. In about three months time I move to Bristol and I’m dreading the search and hunt again. I HOPE I will be able to find someone a bit quicker as without continuos input, their is a risk of me loosing strength or not gaining more. Since training with Luke I have become far more independent, I wish this to continue.
If you are disabled never let anyone tell you what you can and can’t do, technology and medical advancements are constantly being made. Dependent on your impairment will obviously influence any physical development. I have spent eleven years increasing my movement and will probably continue this in some form for the next decade, whether its independently or with professional help. At times it has been for small things such as increasing thumb and finger movement (this took me a few years).
If you live in the Canterbury area and are looking for a personal trainer, I very much advise that you look up Luke Bicknell and start growing alongside your body.”
” Last year I had the crazy notion of signing up to do Tough Mudder with the idea that it would be a good challenge and hopefully a boost to my fitness. What I didn’t realise was that running 11.5 miles for someone who is not a natural was going to be REALLY hard and that is where Luke comes in. Having already trained with him at Canterbury Bootcamps I had seen his seemingly effortless ability in running so signed up for some running lessons with him. After analysing my running style and assessing my muscular condition i was given various things to focus and work on for different running sessions. It didn’t take long for me to feel an improvement in my running and if it hadn’t been for Luke’s help I really don’t think I would have been able to complete Tough Mudder. Thank you Luke!”
“I’d lost a lot of confidence in running following some painful knee trouble that would come on after doing any sports. I’d been doing basic physio for 6 months but no results. I had one session with Luke and he gave some really simple advice and techniques for recovery that I could do by myself, based on his knowledge of sports injury and anatomy. Within 2 weeks I was running again… and I’m aiming for my first marathon in 2013.”
